Getmapping, the UK’s leading aerial survey specialist, has set new records for Scottish capture at the start of 2020, acquiring over 25% of the entire country in the first month. As a result, a record amount of new imagery will be added to Getmapping’s extensive Scotland coverage over the summer.
“The beautiful weather has allowed Getmapping to capture large volumes of imagery of Scotland this year,” explains Gil Melham, Getmapping’s European Managing Director. “This includes some difficult areas such as the very northern extremities of the mainland, where the weather is rarely that cooperative. The great start to the season means that we expect to add content covering nearly half of Scotland this season if this trend continues.”
“Getmapping has been maintaining imagery of Scotland since 2003 and we hold an unrivalled archive of historic imagery collected over the last two decades. At the start of the new decade, it is great to see such a large volume of new data coming online for the benefit of our large customer base.”
This image of the stunning Armadale Beach on the remote Northern Coast of Scotland is a reminder of just how beautiful our country is, and how much of it we have yet to explore. When the restrictions ease, it would be great if we could support our local tourism industry, so badly affected by the outbreak, by taking the chance to visit somewhere new. Hopefully we will all get the chance to start safely visiting these wonderful places again soon, but until then Getmapping imagery can still take you there!
“Getmapping has collected over 850,000 square kilometres of Scotland imagery and height data since we started back in 2002” comments Dave Horner, Group CEO at Getmapping. “All of this imagery is available to our customers via our Web shop, Direct Sales team and our WMS imagery feeds. In these changing times, desktop access to imagery of places is becoming invaluable in support of remote working and maintaining social distancing.”
Getmapping is unique in offering our customers access to such a large archive of historic data for Scotland, alongside our unique archive of imagery for England and Wales. In addition, Getmapping also offers a wide range of other products including height data, LiDAR and OS products (as a licensed partner), so visit our web shop or contact us today to find out more about how Getmapping’s unrivalled services can help you to be there without being there.
It’s not all change:
We are going through a time of great upheaval and change, but it’s important to also recognise that much of our beautiful scenery and surroundings remain relatively unspoilt.
This early Getmapping image of the same Armadale Beach from 2004 was taken at a time when we still used analogue film cameras. But you can see how much of this beautiful area remains unchanged today.
