GN Surveys chooses GSaaS platform for their client, Countryside Properties.

Delivering regular, detailed analysis of a site to GN Surveys through Getmapping’s innovative GSaaS Platform.

Background

GN Surveys provide a range of survey services to their housebuilding and urban regeneration client, Countryside Properties. They pride themselves on listening to their customers’ requirements and applying  a blend of the latest available technology, sometimes sourced though strategic partners, to develop a solution that meets and exceeds client expectations.

They were asked by Countryside to carry out a 5 Line Kilometre topographical survey with regular monthly updates for a planned project duration of 18 months for a new site at Boreham Interchange. GN Surveys approached trusted partner, Getmapping, to help identify the most cost-effective solution. They required a faster, smarter alternative to traditional topographical survey techniques to meet their client’s needs, together with the flexibility to combine the data with other topographical data collected by GN Surveys.

The optimum solution consisted of a series of Mobile Mapping surveys using Getmapping’s  vehicle-mounted Leica Geosystems Pegasus: Two Ultimate system.

The Solution

The initial survey captured superior 3D LiDAR point cloud data along all road networks within the site boundary. In addition, Getmapping captured 360-degree panoramic and lateral images at 3m intervals. This recorded the condition and geometry of the entire road network before construction start and formed the base survey for tracking change.

Updated point cloud data and high resolution ground level images were collected, processed and delivered every month, with the flexibility of being able to add new roads and sections of the development site, as built.

Conclusions

This bespoke GSaaS solution was invaluable in enabling GN Surveys and their client, Countryside, to survey and monitor the roads, and track monthly road construction as -built, for the duration of the development.

  • Accurate and detailed: The initial survey provided a highly accurate digital replica of the site.
  • Regularly updated: Monthly updates enabled changes and progress to be effectively monitored.

  • Cost-effective: The Mobile Mapping solution was quicker, safer and more cost-effective than traditional topographical survey techniques.

  • Not disruptive: The data was provided without the need for traffic management and road closures.

  • Easily integrated: The mapping data was delivered according to the client specifications and was easily integrated with other topographical data collected by GN Surveys.

GN Surveys are already using Getmapping’s Mobile Mapping solution for a number of other projects and are evaluating rolling out the monthly GSaaS solution to provide accurate updates for monitoring and tracking change across multiple sites.
