The GeoDATA 2017 London event provided an ideal location for Getmapping to showcase the latest in Mobile Mapping technology and how survey data is fuelling innovation.
The GeoDATA London event held in December is a favourite of the Getmapping team. Typically, smaller than some of the other shows we have exhibited at throughout the year, the mix of a free exhibition alongside high-quality seminar sessions enables a great opportunity for catching up with existing geospatial friends and networking to build new business relationships.
This year’s show was very well attended and had a great buzz about it. The Getmapping stand was perfectly located opposite the hall entrance, resulting in lots of interest and activity, especially regarding our recent investment in the latest mobile mapping technology.
Last year we demo’d our street layer mobile mapping system at the GeoDATA event, this year the Leica Pegasus:Two mobile mapping system featured on our exhibition stand. Having recently extended our mobile mapping capabilities with the addition of the Pegasus:Two system, we were naturally keen to show it off at the GeoDATA London showcase event and to demonstrate how survey data is fuelling innovation.
The system, coupled with our extensive survey experience and processing capabilities, received a lot of interest particularly from survey and transportation organisations looking for assistance with planning decisions for the future, whether this be for smart cities or asset management.
Getmapping’s Group Innovation Director Martin Tocher presented a seminar session – “Data for The Smart Generation: Aerial and Mobile Mapping", exploring how data captured from Getmapping aerial and mobile mapping surveys is fuelling innovation and allowing the creation of smart applications.
Martin included a case study with AppyParking - the UK's most disruptive mapping & navigation startup who are developing a range of products for use with connected cities and autonomous vehicles.
AppyParking are currently using point cloud data, captured and processed by Getmapping, in the smart parking sector to provide real-time parking information alongside their one-click parking cashless payment solution.
The seminar generated a lot of interest and certainly provided food for thought regarding the numerous possibilities and range of uses of high-resolution imagery and point cloud data.
"Interesting overview from Martin at Getmapping and AppyParking - a smart way to park. If you have issues parking, this app will solve your problems. Getmapping work using Leica Geosystems Pegasus:Two to map the roads and AppyParking help us park! NICE!!!"Elaine Ball, Geospatial Business & Marketing EvangelistView mobile mapping presentation slides
